My research asks how economic analysis can help understand and govern socio-ecological systems. I am especially interested in how private decisions, ecosystem dynamics and public policy interact, and in the design of instruments that can reconcile environmental objectives with heterogeneous behaviours and incentives.
Research
Valuing ecosystems and natural capital
Economic valuation of ecosystem services and biodiversity, non-market preferences, and the role of natural capital in production and welfare.
Understanding behaviour and heterogeneity
Decisions by forest owners, managers, citizens and users; discrete choices, social interactions, risk, information and spatial heterogeneity.
Designing environmental policies and incentives
Payments for environmental services, contracts, conservation mechanisms and public policies for sustainable and multifunctional resource management.
